Henry Moore, My Father

BBC Radio 4

On the occasion of an important exhibition of Henry Moore's early sculpture at Tate Britain in February 2010, Mary Moore describes the life and work of her father. She recalls the Moore's home at Hoglands, a small house, crammed with extraordinary carvings and paintings from all over the world. The house was also a busy hub - visiting artists and students would turn up, eager to discuss art with Britain's most eminent sculptor. She remembers her father's striking ability to talk to all kinds of people and still find the time and concentration needed to focus on the form and development of his work. The only time Hoglands was 'closed' to visitors was during Wimbledon, which Moore loved to watch on television. Together with her mother Irina, the three formed a close-knit company, working together to make art part and parcel of life in Britain.

"Henry Moore, My Father was a privilege...Kate Bland, the producer, makes documentaries that always kickstart this listener’s little grey cells." The Telegraph

"Henry Moore, My Father was sprinkled with biographical gems, recounted by his daughter Mary, but mainly assessed his artistic significance. This was all neatly done by impressive contributors such as artists Antony Gormley and Anthony Caro..." The Guardian
