Bernstein, My Mentor

Twenty five years after Leonard Bernstein’s death in 1990, Marin Alsop has agreed to give a personal account of her teacher and mentor, illustrated with archive previously unheard in the UK. Marin Alsop was a pupil of Bernstein’s at the Tanglewood Music Center, where she won a prize for conducting. Bernstein became her idol and she remained closely connected with him through the course of his career. Bernstein showed me the enormous power of music to transform lives and how important it is to share it with as much of humanity as is possible.
