Forever Blue
BBC Radio 3
Marking the 30th anniversary of Derek Jarman’s final film ‘Blue’ which was broadcast simultaneously on BBC Radio 3 and Channel 4, shortly before his death from complications due to HIV/AIDs.
Today he is one of Britain’s most celebrated 20th century artists, 30 years ago Jarman was deeply controversial. His films were shockingly homoerotic but also offered an unflinching critique of the socio-political climate of Thatcherite Britain.
Tilda Swinton, Simon Fisher Turner, Toyah, Russell Tovey and others tell the story of Blue. And through this prism we learn about his talents as a film-maker, painter, and set designer.
Produced by Victoria Ferran
Broadcast: 17th September 2023 on BBC Radio 3
