Judy – The Final Rainbow

Radio 4

Renée Zellweger introduces an archive hour dedicated to Judy Garland’s final performances in London in 1968.

Zellweger plays Judy in the upcoming film directed by Rupert Goold. Using little-heard archive and eye witness accounts from those who knew and worked with Garland, we separate the woman from the myth, examine her exceptional talent, exploitation and her troubled relationship with MGM’s Louis B Mayer.

Renee talks us through the archive she used to prepare for the role of Garland in the new film, and breaks down the qualities of Judy’s voice and performances which made her one of the 20th century’s greatest performers.
