Powell and Pressburger – Poetic Patriotism

BBC Radio 4

‘Poetic Patriotism’ delves into the trailblazing career of filmmakers Powell and Pressburger. Screenwriter Hungarian-Jewish Emeric Pressburger and director English Michael Powell turned a culture of wartime propaganda filmmaking on its head, delivering classics such as A Matter of Life and Death that to this day feel modern.

Made in collaboration with the BFI, presenter Carol Morley is joined by Tilda Swinton and other P&P enthusiasts to celebrate their massive influence, discuss their approach to diversity and how they both celebrated and critiqued British culture.
