Lasting Lessons

BBC Radio 4

Alongside their A-levels, five seventeen-year-olds volunteer for six months at a hospice in Surrey, England. These are young people who hope to work in healthcare one day, and for one reason or another, feel drawn to helping others. We hear their hopes and fears as they work with patients on the ward . Above all, there are worries that it will be very sad, and too much for people their age to handle. But the results of the experience are surprising.
